Reeds Weybridge RFC Whiteley Village clubhouse was packed to capacity last Saturday for the end of season awards dinner and to celebrate Reeds Weybridge promotion to Surrey League 1.

Reeds topped the league table by an eleven point margin, scored the most points and conceded the fewest but along the way there were some desperately close results, their wins against Wellingtonians, Cranleigh and their closest rivals Haileyburians were by just one point in each game.

Reeds have a young side with an average age of just twenty three and many of the first team players are still playing for the Under 21 side, which has been managed so successfully for many years by Dave Woollatt and whose two sons Michael and Simon play for the Under 21’s and the first XV.

Club President Simon Wallis paid tribute to three key members of the Reeds Weybridge Team, First Team Manager Jes Isaacs, Director of Rugby Nigel Connell and the 1st XV skipper Billy Maddock whose combined efforts have been crucial to the successful season. Clubman of the Year Award went to Mark Sukiennik who has had a key role in club sponsorship, Alex Corner, the first team No 8 and pack leader was the players choice for Player of the Season and his cousin George Corner, such an influential member of the forwards, collected the Coaches Award and Dan Veale, the young winger who scored the winning try against Wellingtonians was voted the Most Improved Player of the Year.

The Second XV awards went to Tom Sheridan, the Second XV skipper, young Lewis Jones, the hard running centre and Reeds Under 21 lock forward Ed Scott.

President Simon Wallis signed off the evening with a special mention for Ed Peters, Chairman, Secretary and Treasurer who has been a member of the Club for forty consecutive years and is still a regular front row player.
