Reeds Fall to Another Defeat…

With the end of the season just three games away the league campaign just can’t end quickly enough for Reeds who are facing major player availability problems. Medway on the other hand seem to be going from strength to strength and have a decent shout for promotion following a bonus point win against an injury hit Reeds side last Saturday.
Reeds were up the slope in the first half and found themselves in defensive mode for long periods, they were winning plenty of quality ball from the lineouts by way of skipper Herbie Finn, but Medway had more firepower in the tight and that provided a stream of attacking opportunities. However, it was Reeds who went into an early lead after a series of drives in the Medway red zone, that finally gave some space for Will Jones the super quick winger to touch down by the flag, with Josh Clark collecting the extras from way out. It was a short-lived lead, the young Medway side were firing the ball around the park and Reeds were struggling to contain the Medway runners, and a breakthrough from the twenty-two resulted in a try under the sticks to level the scores. It was the visitors who were having the best of the territory along with some quality possession, Reeds lost a man to the bin and Medway had three more unconverted tries on the board at the change round. (7-22). Now Reeds had the slope in their favour but those young Medway runners were giving Reeds defence a hard time, they had one more try on the board before Reeds struck back. It was unquestionably the try of the day from either side. It was initiated deep in Reeds half by winger Will Jones, he has some serious wheels that took him through the defence to the twenty-two, he fed Jack Bennett the utility back who touched down for a seven pointer. Reeds had the better of the exchanges in the last quarter and there was just the possibility of a remarkable com- back, however, hope was extinguished when a brave attempt to run the ball deep out of defence was intercepted and it was a seven pointer to the Medway backs. Reeds however did manage the final say with Chuggs Wallis, the back row forward, battering his way over from short distance when the clock was on red but it was Medway who collected the five table points that puts them into promotion contention.
Reeds Weybridge Man of the Match was Baffour Aggapong-Ntrah for another outstanding all round forward performance, especially in the loose exchanges where he was such potent force.
