The two sides propping up the bottom of the table gave their supporters an emotional roller coaster ride at Whiteley Village last Saturday, it was a seven tries to six contest with Reeds scoring the winning try with the clock in red.

Reeds came up the slope in the first half, but had the best of the territory and went into an early five-point lead, the visitors hit back to level the scores but then Reeds collected two tries in quick succession, one of them from the Man of the Match, Joe Menassa the powerful No 8. Perhaps that three try to one advantage persuaded Reeds to take their foot off the gas, whereas the visitors began to run the ball from all parts of the park. A yellow card had Reeds cover stretched and Ellingham had three more tries in the bag and a seven-point lead at the change round at 19 – 26.

Reeds had the slope in that second half and the best of the tight scrums, but it was Ellingham who extended their lead with another try to make it 19 – 33. The third quarter of the game was crucial, Reeds were under huge pressure in all departments, but Reeds young side battled their way out of their territory to set up a nerve-jangling final quarter having closed the gap to 38 – 38. In those last moments it was six tries a piece with play deep in Ellingham territory, a break by Reeds back line bolstered by the fact they had a penalty coming led to Aryan Sadhu the young hooker finishing off the move to drive through a tiring defence to collect the winning points.
