Reeds Secure First Win – and points – of the new season

Nigel Connell Reeds Weybridge DOR has a young and relatively inexperienced side under his control at the moment, but any shortcomings in that department were more than compensated by a full on eighty minute team performance that resulted in a much needed bonus point win. It was in those ferocious exchanges that Chuggs Wallis delivered another outstanding  performance, that earned him the Man of the Match award. it was in one of those exchanges that Reeds lost their influential prop forward Rhys Day with a serious arm injury. Reeds were up the hill in the first half and it was young Charles Collyer who managed to wrestle the ball clear from a loose maul and feed Matt Stephenson who clocked up the first try of the day. Reeds lost a man to the bin in that first quarter and that gave the visitors the best of the territory and possession which led to a breakaway try and a penalty in front of the sticks. Just before the break Matt Stephenson, the No 14, who is seriously quick, fed Shane Barry the centre to collect Reeds second try of the day and Pete Cole banged over a long range penalty to put Reeds seven points in front at the change round with the slope to come in their favour. There was a real battle going on in the forward exchanges and it was Zac O’Connor who barged his way over from five metres that broke the deadlock, Pete Cole slotted the conversion and soon added another successful penalty shot. With Reeds in charge of the territory it left Chobham in defensive mode and late on Josh Clark, Reeds skipper crossed for try No 4 but it was the visitors who had the last word with their third try of the day. Pete Cole Reeds No 10 had and outstanding day with a total of fifteen points from penalties and conversions.
