Reeds Show Fight Despite Heavy Defeat

REGIONAL 2 SOUTH CENTRAL

TOTTONIANS 66      REEDS WEYBRIDGE 12

Tottonians had drawn their game with high flying Bournemouth last week, with that result in mind, Reeds, knew they were in for a tough challenge from the Southampton based club. A highly organised Tottonians side had the best of the territory from the start which had Reeds in defensive mode within their 22 for long periods. It was Tottonians ability to recycle the possession which had Reeds cover in difficulty. At the change round. Reeds had one try on the board scored by James Kayster the young flanker, but Tottonians were in the box seat with twenty six points. When a side is in defensive posture for long periods, it is almost inevitable that someone is going to end up in the bin, Reeds lost a man to the bin and had to replace two of their props as well and had to go to uncontested scrums. Reeds were under huge pressure in all departments, but it was young Ben Sherry the full back who made Reeds second try of the day, he collected the ball deep in his own twenty  two cleared over the half way and then kicked the ball-over the defence, collected the ball and offloaded for Aiden Procopis to touch down for a converted try. No question, this was a significant defeat for Reeds but the only real failure is to give up, and that didn’t happen. Reeds young side will learn from this experience which will enable them to bounce back from this heavy loss as we have two important games in the next two weeks against Guildford and Chobham.
