Colts – Windsor 7s Competition

A bright Autumnal morning greeted the Reeds Colts to the picturesque setting of St Georges College, for the Windsor 7’s on 27 Oct. It has been a tough start to the season with a lack of under 18’s in the Colts team. However, when it comes to commitment, running rugby, and positive play, this team can compete with the best.

And they started the tournament in a very sharp fashion with a comfortable 17-7 victory over Wallingford. The sight of 6”5 lock Dillon Morgan running in a try from 60 metres set an early marker for the most memorable try of the season. Unfortunately we had to turn around immediately for our next game, with Dillon still gasping for breath! And the disadvantage cost us with a disappointing 24-12 loss to Chobham. The final pool match was against the tournament’s standout team, Saracens. Reeds held their heads high, and performed admirably in a 17-7 loss (the only try conceded by Saracens on the day).

And so we progressed to the knockout stages in the plate, with the team starting to gel nicely and showing the organisation, decision making, and skill required in 7’s. And all 3 attributes were shown in bucketfuls in a 6 try juggernaut display against Slough in the semi-final. The team then took this confidence into the final against Fullers, knowing that things were brewing nicely. And so it proved, a competent 24-15 win, and the plate was ours!

Try scoring honours were fiercely contested between Jack Cowlard and new wonder man, Charlie Goddard, with Jack just shading the count by 6 to 5. However this truly was a team effort and will give the squad a huge boost going into the remainder of the season – Go Reeds!
