Youth

Welcome

A warm welcome to our Reeds Youths, whether you’ve been at the club for years or are thinking about trying rugby for the very first time, the Reeds family friendly nature extends right through all ages. Many of the youths have older or younger brothers playing at Reeds too. We love to see new players joining each season. The season starts in September and runs until the end of April. Come and give us a try!

This year we will be starting on Sunday the 3rd September 2023 and will be playing right through (except for Christmas and Easter) until the end of April. Our annual membership for our youth players is £215 with a 10% discount for those players with an older sibling at the club.

Youth U12

Our Reeds U12s age group runs a fully committed team with a full programme of Surrey-lead and friendly fixtures. With our flood lights we are able to train Wednesday nights, 18:30 pm to 19:30 pm at the Reeds Weybridge Club Whitely Village. On Sundays we train from 11:30am through to 1300hrs when there is no fixture. Our fixtures are a mix of friendlies and then the Surrey Waterfall Cup – a merit level division in which we are currently competing.

We believe that Reeds U12s offer players, at all standards, a great opportunity to learn and develop their rugby skills and enjoyment of our great game; to play fun and competitive rugby at a level that is suitable for their ability; and to continue to be challenged as their experience and ability develops.

We are looking to grow our U12s squad as the age group system leads us towards the 15 a-side game, and we continue to look for new players to join and would welcome anyone considering rugby to come and have a trial with us.

U12 Sponsors

We are blessed with 3 key sponsors, Howdens (Insurers) // Luxfords (Weybridge based removals firm) and Solvochem (suppliers of chemicals, solvents and plastics worldwide)

Coaching & Player Development

The Reeds U12s age group is supported by an excellent coaching group. Led by Matt Vickery who has a wealth of game experience, coaching and one to one strength and conditioning of young athletes. Matt is supported by a qualified group of the boys fathers who have taken on RFU qualifications from coaching awards to referee and first aid in sport. They are all involved in a continuous programme of training and development supported by the Reeds club and the RFU. We also leverage specialist coaching resources within the club, when required. We focus on developing player’s core skills, to enable them to play effectively at several positions. We are looking to develop well rounded players who can play several positions at this early stage.

We have a great atmosphere here in our age group and club as a whole with a successful 1st XV to inspire our boys. All players, whatever their ability, are sincerely welcome. Please contact Team manger Robin Dunlop [email protected] for further information.

Social Activities & Tour

Our boys love a good tour, we have enjoyed some great long weekends away over the years since the U6s !! We are touring again this season down to Somerset where the boys will play several fixtures and enjoy team bonding activities. We tour once a season and we always aim to organise a number of social events each year for players and the parents, outside of rugby training and matches.

Reeds Weybridge (RWRFC) Under 14 Team Photo 2017-18 Season

Our Reeds U14s age group runs a fully committed team with a full programme of Surrey-lead and friendly fixtures. We train Wednesday nights, 8pm to 8.15pm at the Reeds Weybridge Club Whitely Village. On Sundays we mainly play matches, along with some additional training sessions, when we don’t have fixtures. Sunday training runs from 11.45am until 1.15pm. Our home fixtures will also aim to fit within those times, whilst away fixtures will depend on the opposition.

We believe that Reeds U14s offer players, at all standards, a great opportunity to learn and develop their rugby skills and enjoyment of our great game; to play fun and competitive rugby at a level that is suitable for their ability; and to continue to be challenged as their experience and ability develops.

Our attitude and approach to coaching is to ensure first and foremost, a safe, fun and enjoyable environment for junior rugby. Secondly, we look to grow and develop skills, technique and confidence, to support that enjoyment of the game and provide all children with opportunity to express their abilities on the field.

We really want to grow our U14s squad as we head towards larger team games, and we continue to look for new players to join and would welcome anyone considering Rugby to come and give it a go. All we ask is for enthusiasm and commitment. We will do the rest!

Our squad loves a good tour and over the last few years (except Covid year!) we have enjoyed some great long weekends away showing how Reeds Weybridge RFC play rugby! We aim to tour once again in 2024. Tour is a fundamental part of Rugby life and provides an opportunity for squad bonding, tour court and a chance to play different teams.

U14 Sponsors

We were very fortunate to be sponsored by Amyase Sports Branding for our most recent tour to Bournemouth. We are always on the lookout for new sponsors.

League

This is our first year of 15 aside rugby, we will participate in the Intermediate Tier of the Waterfall Cup, where we were very competitive last season.

Coaching & Player Development

The Reeds U14s age group is supported by excellent coaches, who have decades (too many to count) of playing experience, and are involved in a continuous programme of training and development supported by the Reeds club and the RFU. We also leverage specialist coaching resources within the club, when required. We focus on developing player’s core skills, to enable them to play effectively at several positions. We want well rounded players and whilst positional play in matches is important, we develop all players in all skills.

Reeds Facilities

Reeds Weybridge is blessed with some fantastic playing facilities. Flat, well maintained, quick draining pitches ensure that we can train and play throughout the season, whatever the weather conditions.

Match quality lights were installed at Reeds Weybridge during the 2013-14 season which allow us to provide high quality, mid-week training sessions even in the depths of winter.

Social Activities & Tour

We always aim to organise a number of social events each year for players and the parents, outside of rugby training and matches.

Youth U15

The Reeds U15’s age group runs up to 3 teams with a full programme of league and friendly fixtures. We have 15 coaches helping to develop the boys to be the best they can be, both on and off the pitch.

Training takes place on our pitches in Whitely Village, on Thursday evenings, at 7pm. Sunday’s are reserved for matches, or additional training sessions, normally at midday. We will host matches at home, but also travel around Surrey to play other clubs.

At the end of each season, we run an incredibly popular tour (with parents encouraged to join in the fun!).

Despite our large numbers, we are always looking for new players. With plenty of coaches and pitch space, we can cater for many more. Whether you are a novice or looking for a new club to showcase your skills, come and give Reeds a try.

Our focus is on development, first and foremost. Our fully inclusive environment gives opportunities to players of all standards, the chance to learn and play at a level that is appropriate for them.

Most importantly, we’re all about having fun. We like to win but seeing smiles on faces is far more important.
