Match Report – Old Ruts 65 v Reeds 17 – October 2026
SURREY SUSSEX COUNTIES 1
OLD RUTLISHIANS 65 REEDS WEYBRIDGE 17
Last Saturday was a tough day at the office for Reeds Weybridge, a wide pitch, dry conditions and a Old Ruts side that ran everything had Reeds young side in defensive mode for much of the game. After Old Ruts went into the lead 12-0 Reeds fort back with a Ben Sherry penalty and a converted try after a offload from tight head prop Sam Smith to flanker Joe Manassa to make the score 12-10 but a late converted try and penalty by Old Ruts just before half time meant that Reeds were trailing 22-10 at the half time whistle. After a series of quick tries by the Old Ruts outside backs in the second half the game got away from Reeds but the forward pack who never gave up were rewarded for their efforts when after a period of prolonged pressure the young loose head prop Harry Burns scored from short range under the posts for a consolation converted try.
In the formal passages of play, the tight scrums and the line outs, Reeds were seriously competitive and it was in those departments that No 8 Ieuan Schofield had an exceptional afternoon that earned him the Man of the Match award. However, out wide, quick hands, ball retention and pace were too much for the Reeds defence. This is a side that is rebuilding after the retirement of several high-profile players, and most of their replacements have come up from Reeds Weybridge successful junior teams, transition to the harsh demands of club rugby will take time.
