Reeds 2021-22 Friendlies Review

Reeds have enjoyed two good hit outs in the run up to the start of the season with everyone getting some game time and the coaches learning who is putting their hand up for selection, and where we need to make improvements and adjustments to get ready for the season proper. So far so good!

Our first friendly on 21 August saw us score 4 tries against our first opponents London Cornish in what was a great physical hit out for the squad of 23 and which left us with plenty of things to work on. Tries were evenly distributed amongst the forwards and backs with Joe Moriarty, Douw Steiger, Tony Adams and Tom McClean crossing the whitewash. What was really pleasing during the first game was the player inter-changeability as numbers of players were swapped in and out along with the starting 15 containing 6 new players making their Reeds debuts. Our D, with Cornish only scoring once from close range in the third quarter, and our development of a more mature game that saw us play in the right parts of the field were also high-lights.

The 4 September saw us play away once more, this time against Petersfield whom have been recently promoted to LSW3, with Reeds winning 32-17 in what at times felt like a workmanlike performance but with Reeds nonetheless managing to score 5 tries against a very committed team whom should easily adapt to life in LSW3. Importantly however having not played for 18 months plus we should avoid being too critical of ourselves.

A big menion too for our combined Vets and U21’s side whom won handsomely at home versus Crawley!

Finally, in both instances, a very big thank you to our hosts, Petersfield & London Cornish, whom were great and made us feel completely at home.

Our focus is now on putting the finishing touches in place to be ‘’game -ready’’ come 18th September when we host Old Tonbridgians at Whitely Village.

Go Reeds!
